Large-scale freight and transport operations within a business are complex. Not just for warehouse staff but also for sales, customer service and finance teams that interact with freight processes daily.

Cario can transform how your teams quote, select, book, track and trace freight across multiple carriers. And now you can natively integrate Cario’s extensive functionality into SAP for all your teams to use.

Cario and SAP Integration Options

Cario customers using SAP can choose from two integration models to share data and functionality between the two systems.

  • The native integration model where Cario functionality is embedded and operated wholly within SAP
  • The “arm's-length” option relies on data being exported out of SAP into Cario. Freight operations can then be completed in Cario, and data - such as costing or tracking events - can be regularly imported back into SAP.

Customers can also choose a combination of these two models depending on their requirements and ownership of specific freight and transport operation functions.

With SAP's configurability, some scenarios might be better suited to the “arms-length” model, such as when stock items are repackaged for shipping. The resulting shipment size might not equal the sum of the combined items’ individual dimensions and weight, making it very difficult to obtain freight pricing within SAP.

Common Integration Scenarios:

SAP creates and governs transportation requirements. Cario executes freight across carrier networks, private fleets and logistics providers. Together they connect enterprise planning with real-world freight execution while returning trusted operational and financial outcomes back into SAP.

1. Quoting

Compare carrier options before freight execution

Cario turns SAP transportation requirements into carrier-ready freight options by applying business rules, carrier rate cards, service levels, capacity constraints and customer preferences before execution begins.

Outcome: Better freight cost visibility, faster carrier selection and more consistent delivery decisions.

Includes:

  • Least-cost, fastest-service and preferred-carrier rules
  • Transit time, capacity and contracted rate comparison
  • Customer-specific carrier and service allocation
  • Cost versus service optimisation
  • Multi-carrier rate shopping and service evaluation

2. Consigning

Execute freight from SAP transportation requirements

Cario receives transportation requirements from SAP and manages freight execution at freight unit level across external carriers, private fleets, warehouses and logistics providers.

Once a carrier and service have been selected, Cario automates carrier booking, consignment creation, label generation, manifesting and shipment execution while returning booking outcomes back into SAP.

Outcome: Standardised freight execution, fewer manual processes and reduced reliance on individual carrier systems.

Includes:

  • Carrier booking, allocation and consignment creation
  • Label, connote and compliance document generation
  • Manifesting and shipment execution workflows
  • Freight unit execution and shipment consolidation
  • Multi-package shipment management

3. Tracking

Return real-time freight execution visibility to SAP

Cario captures and standardises transport events from carrier and fleet networks before returning trusted execution updates into SAP-supported workflows.

Rather than relying on multiple carrier portals, users gain a consolidated view of shipment status, delivery milestones, exceptions and Proof of Delivery.

Outcome: Improved customer service, faster issue resolution and greater visibility across the freight execution lifecycle.

Includes:

  • Shipment status, milestone and ETA updates
  • Exception management and delivery event monitoring
  • Proof of Delivery, sign-on-glass and photo capture
  • Transport tracking across carriers and private fleets
  • Carrier performance and service monitoring

4. Finance

Connect freight execution to financial governance

Cario validates actual freight execution activity against contracted carrier rates, surcharges and invoices before returning trusted freight cost outcomes into SAP.

This enables organisations to align freight execution with financial processes and improve freight audit, reconciliation and transport cost control.

Outcome: Stronger freight governance, more accurate accruals and reduced invoice reconciliation effort.

Includes:

  • Freight cost, rate and surcharge validation
  • Invoice matching, variance identification and reconciliation
  • Freight audit and cost governance workflows
  • Actual freight costs and charge validation
  • Freight cost outcomes returned to SAP
